: Hi,
: I'm travelling to Sth Africa in April 99, and would love to do some volunteer work in a national park/wildlife reserve, doing practically anything. I would just love the opportunity to gain some experience with African wildlife and animal management. If anyone out there can offer such positions, i would be incredibly interested. If not, if anyone can suggest alternative organisations/individuals who would be able to help, i would really appreciate it. I am a hard worker and a quick learner, and love the outdoors. Please, if anyone can give me any information, it would be great. I'm not having much luck getting replies from anywhere. Thanks a lot,
: Helen
Hi Helen, my daughter was in similar circumstances to yourself. In the end she just tavelled to Africaand took a chance. She has found voulunteer work in Zimbabwe studying Rhinos in MATUSADONA National Park in Tashinga.
She obtained the position by contacting the association in Harare. The programme is about reintroducing Rhinos back into the wild(they are hand raising several)
Also you may want to try contacting the Jayne Goodall Societywho take on students at the Gombe National Park in Tanzania. Thenumber to phone for that is in the U.K. 011 44 1590 671 188. Another place to try would be South Laguna National Park in Zambia. Apparatnly they do all their hiring before May 1st. If your only going to be visiting Sout Africa, you may want to try applying to the Kruger National Park.
Hope this is usefull to you....Good Luck
Peggy
